My love of France began with my love for the beauty of the French language. In school, music and French were the only classes I looked forward to. Mademoiselle Magill not only taught us the language but instilled in us the French appreciation for food, art, culture, nationalité, and of course a dislike for the Quebecois accent. Needless to say, the more I learned, the more I wanted to learn….
When we’re in France, it is magical. Like a cliche, time stops and I feel as though I am in a movie. As musicians it feels as thought we have returned home where music is in the consciousness, and the pastries are from heaven. The people we meet are incredible and we immediately feel that they’re our oldest friends. It feels as though the entire country is just a "petit village".
For me all roads lead back to France, which is where I want to build the next chapter of my life. If only to sing in the places Nina Simone once sang, laugh through the streets that Hemingway staggered down, and, like Josephine Baker, dance my way 'til the end; in the place I feel most at home.

Mon amour de la France a commencé avec mon amour de la langue française. À l'école, la musique et le français étaient les seuls cours auxquels j'avais hâte de participer. Mademoiselle Magill nous a non seulement appris à parler en français, mais a inculqué l'appréciation française pour la nourriture, l'art, la culture, la nationalité, et bien sûr une aversion pour l'accent québécois. Plus j'apprenais, plus j'avis envie d'apprendre….
Quand on est en France, c'est vraiment magique. Comme un cliché, le temps s'arrête et j'ai l'impression d'être dans un film. En tant que musiciens, nous avons l'impression d'être rentrés chez nous, un endroit où la musique est dans la conscience et les pâtisseries sont divines. On rencontre toujours des gens incroyables avec qui on a tout de suite l'impression d'être des amis d'enfance. C'est comme si tout le pays n'était qu'un petit village.
Pour moi tous les chemins me ramènent en France, là où je rêve d'ecrire la prochaine chapitre de ma vie. Ne serait-ce que pour chanter dans les endroits où Nina Simone a autrefois chanté, rire dans les mêmes cafés que Hemingway a saccagés et, comme Joséphine Baker, danser jusqu'à la fin; là où je me sens le plus chez moi.

Qui est Lisa St. Lou?
Lisa a commencé à chanter des hymnes classiques dans un style "soul" dans l'église baptiste de sa grand-mère dans le sud de Saint-Louis. Influencée par les plus grandes voix d'avant son temps, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, George Michael, elle a ensuite étudié la musique, l'opéra, puis obtenu une maîtrise en interprétation vocale.
En plus de composer et de chanter sur ses propres albums (Lisa Rothauser's Life. Who Knew?, Ain't No Good Man), Lisa a collaboré et enregistré des albums avec des légendes de la musique telles qu'Ivan Neville, Celisse, Crystal Monee Hall et Raymond Weber, Tor Hyams et a travaillé avec des stars telles que Boy Howie D (The Backstreet Boys) et des légendes comme Irma Thomas et Cyril Neville. En tant que chanteuse, elle a été sur scène au Joe's Pub and City Winery à New York, au Blue Strawberry à St. Louis et dans d'autres lieux célèbres et a participé à des festivals tels que Lollapalooza et Austin City Limits sous son alter ego “HushCandy".
Les talents de Lisa s'étendent au-delà de son incroyable voix. Elle a joué dans plusieurs spectacles à Broadway et dans d'autres théâtres à New York et ailleurs. Elle et son partenaire Tor Hyams ont écrit, produit plusieurs productions théâtrales, des vidéoclips et des émissions de télévision.
Lisa started singing soulful versions of classic hymns in her grandma’s Baptist church in south St. Louis. Influenced by some of the greatest voices our time, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, George Michael, she went on to study Music, Opera and then getting a Masters in vocal performance.
In addition to writing and singing on her own albums (Lisa Rothauser’s Life. Who Knew?, Ain’t No Good Man) Lisa worked and recorded with music legends such as Ivan Neville, Celisse, Crystal Monee Hall, Raymond Weber, and stars such as Howie D (The Backstreet Boys), Irma Thomas, and Cyril Neville. As a singer she has performed at Joe’s Pub and City Winery in New York City, The Blue Strawberry in St. Louis along with other world famous venues and has performed at festivals such as Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits under her alter ego “HushCandy."
Lisa’s talents extend beyond her incredible vocals. She has performed in several theatre shows both on and off Broadway. She and her partner Tor Hyams have written, produced several theatre productions, music videos and TV shows.

L'amour que Lisa porte à la France, à la langue, à la gastronomie et plus que tout aux arts et à la culture musicale, ce n'était qu'une question de temps avant qu'elle monte régulièrement sur scène dans l’hexagone.
Avec les influences musicales de Zaz, Jane Berkin, Joe Dassin, Dalida, Carte Blanche et tant d'autres, chanter en France permet à Lisa de mélanger ses racines dans le soul et le jazz américain et de superposer le rock et le pop français. En scene elle s'amuse tellement à apporter son propre style aux tubes français qu'à la fin de la soirée tout le monde chante avec elle. With Lisa’s love of France, the language, the food and more than anything the culture of music and arts, it was only a matter of time before she started performing regularly in the country she loves. Her musical influences from Zaz, Jane Berkin, Joe Dassin, Dalida, Carte Blanche and so many others, performing in France allows Lisa to take her roots in American soul and jazz music and overlay french rock and pop.
